Read and interpret engineering drawings and 3D CAD models, develop manufacturing process to build. Monitor the quality and efficiency performance for assigned manufacturing line(s). Drive continuous improvement through process development, root cause analysis and systematic problem solving. Lead small ad hoc teams of CNC programmers, CMM programmers, machinists and operations and quality departments personnel to launch then optimize product builds.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Use expertise in mechanical systems, machining and coating processes, CAD/CAM software, metrology and GD&T to develop prototyping and high-volume manufacturing processes. Create and maintain Bills of Routes.
  • Continually strive to balance and optimize line throughput, including efforts to minimize changeover downtime (i.e. common set-ups).
  • Design and / or procure production tooling and product-specific fixtures and jigs
  • Monitor machine management data in order to maximize utilization and minimize machine-generated scrap.
  • Assist in establishing clear, measurable and attainable goals and objectives by which to determine individual and team results. 
  • Provide input on creative ways to reduce costs by streamlining processes and systems.
  • Ensure that process parameters are determined and consistently result in quality that meets part requirements (or other applicable standard). 
  • Design and / or procure production tooling and product-specific fixtures and jigs.
  • Coordinate line reconfigurations and machine move activities, including equipment arrival, positioning and installation, and scheduling of support groups (Machine Support, Facilities, MIS, etc.) using the approved communication process. 
  • Verify that machine maintenance is performed as scheduled on assigned line(s).
  • Provide guidance, assistance and / or training to the Manufacturing Engineering Assistants and Manufacturing Engineering Technicians. 
  • Assist Engineer Manager with identifying individual and team strengths and development needs on an ongoing basis. 
  • Encourage open communication and exchange of information within the Manufacturing Engineering department and between the various support groups.
  • Adhere to all safety and health rules and regulations associated with this position and as directed by supervisor.
  • Comply and follow all procedures within the company security policy.
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred; and five years related experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
